About Schizoids:

“Many, if not all, are highly intelligent.” - Denis Kucharski (http://www.angelfire.com/nt/ebay3/FAQ_of_Schizoid_Personality_Type.htm)

“He is brilliant, intelligent, creative, and hardworking.” Allison J. Himelick (http://www.pipeline.com/~dada3zen/schizoid_a_personality_not_a_disorder.htm)

“In the workplace, the schizoid is intelligent, gets things done, and they are unaffected by emotional events in the workplace; nothing bothers them much.” - (http://workplace.townhall.com/g/ec7ecae9-a5f7-47eb-904f-c3931918a6c5)

“Creative and intelligent” - Alexander Lowen (Eastern body, Western Mind - http://books.google.com/books?id=LngQ_5tdzPwC&pg=PA81&lpg=PA81&dq=schizoid+intelligent&source=web&ots=yvzqm21oqu&sig=DbDG-ojpPyR0JYiRjkaau0tqsnU)

“intelligent, articulate, efficient…” - Rollo May (Love & Will - http://books.google.com/books?id=JzMjnCFTzVEC&pg=PA68&lpg=PA68&dq=schizoid+intelligent&source=web&ots=_II8cfEpk3&sig=44seI5ac1mswES3S1njy-29kptc#PPP1,M1)

I don’t think Schizoid personality is a valid disorder, some of the smartest people in history were schizoid because they occupied a remote end of the intelligence bell curve. - Tim Flynn (http://www.similarminds.com/)

“Schizoids are generally of above average intelligence…” - Shawn (http://www.geocities.com/schizoidyg/schizoid2welcome.html)

Now since schizoids represent only between 1 to 7.5%* of the population, doesn’t this suggests that our society is primarily composed of cretins?

*(Statistics on the number of schizoids are notorious for their imperfection since one of the trait is to not concider self “sick”, so not really consulting… 1% is the official percentage of diagnosis, 7.5% is an estimated figure often referred to)

  1. Ivan88 Says:

    Who estimated 7.5% and how?

  2. Jack Says:

Yeah I thought that was a little high too, keep in mind it’s just “approximation” from people… I found this number in several locations:
    - in that book http://www.wpic.pitt.edu/education/residency_training/oxford_handbook/response_to_ext_reviews/zChapter11_PD_response_to_reviews.doc (page 461)
    - in that presentation http://www.psych.uic.edu/education/courses/m2psypath/PersonalityDisorders.pdf (page 4)
    - in this book http://books.google.com/books?id=Fwcrfk2BjEsC&pg=PA271&lpg=PA271&dq=schizoid+7.5&source=web&ots=cqeTdBNPeL&sig=fAQr_DH0F7vczKQ-Jphvt0JSblA (Page 271)

  3. Ivan88 Says:

That would make SPD the most common personality disorder.
The first book and the presentation don’t even say who wrote them and none of this has a date.

  4. Jack Says:

Yep just speculations I agree. By definition and medical statistics (though I found only US and UK stats) SPD is the rarest diagnosed personality disorder at a bit under 1% of total population.

  5. in the world but not of it Says:

in the world but not of it… is biblically the proper attitude… so if one is properly not of this world and is of the transcendant understanding then one is enable to be most effectivly in the world in order to bring the light into this world to overcome the darkness here that is often cloaked as if it is the light….
    that being said:)
    hmmmm
the proper connection between not of this world and in this world could be a way to view the issues of schizoid and schizotypal.

with the schizoid who cannot be in the world in an effective way , i suspect it is often a case of seeing artifice of much of society and its proclaimed ways as being of the light as having a dark side that is dangerous and unadmitted for those who are in the world and of the world…. and that the schizoid sense some of such issues often becomes a marked person to render foolish and disordered for having such sensitivities to the the hidden disorder which comes with being of this world.

but if they rely too much on that insight without enuf proper understanding of how to be effectively not of this world, that disables the amount of light they can bring to its darkness. and the ability to see the hope of the divine that stands behind the veil of this world and the world as allowing that this veil as part of the world enable the world to reveal to those with eyes to see and ears to hear how to effectively be in this world but not of it

  6. in the world but not of it Says:

u do know that the french says
I AM THE ONE WHO SAYS THIS ..?
and that is not translated as
*I am not the one saying it

  7. Jack Says:

I know I certainly don’t try to bring any light to any darkness (but my own?), and I sadly am very much aware of being of THIS world, which is a curse and a blessing at the same time.
The world is fine, it will survive us, it’s our society that troubles me.

You can trust my French 101%, but you’re allowed to doubt my English translation ;-)
It’s hard for me to differentiate “C’est celui qui dit qui y est”, “C’est pas moi qui le dit”, “C’est pas moi qui l’ai dit” in English… May be “I AM NOT THE ONE WHO SAYS THIS” is more proper. One thing is for sure though, Ain’t me who wrote all this…
