I have got to admit

Important disclaimers before going forward:

  1. I personally do not believe in classifying people into tables. My own belief is that INDIVUDUALS are UNIQUE (it just so happen that in our society there are not much individuals).
  2. I STRONGLY advise that you look into yourself and KNOW yourself very well before taking any online personality test. They are not meant to inform you of who you are. You should know who you are by yourself. A test (if it is good and honestly answered) will just put a name or label on what you already knew.

So, as I prepared that site I made quiet extensive research and crossed path with an awful lot of online therapy and self help sites, or other “let us give you your personality profile for (insert fee here)”… Usually that crap is 100% commercial, trying to have some kind of “medical” feel to it but full of ads and always ending having something to sell you (book, meds, counseling, your profil…) DO NOT FALL FOR IT! Those sharks are surfing the trendy wave of anxiety. Of course most people feel “inadequate” or “stressed” or “anxious”, they live in a society that goes pretty much against any natural instincts we may have as mammals, so yeah people don’t feel so “well”…

While researching I tumbled on a site pretty much dedicated only to online personality testing. Just one ad on top, no selling, nor pushing you toward anything of the like. I first thought I should take the “personality disorder” test because it will make for great bashing in the blog…

Well I got to admit I cannot bash it. It worked for me, pretty accurate too. Remember: you have to answer HONESTLY (not the way you would like to appear, it is just you behind the keyboard, no lies) and keep in mind it is a COMPUTERIZED assessment (which mean it’s very close to what 95% of the therapists are doing when check marking your answers on their pre-printed forms, no no I am kidding… Sort of… Well it is computerized so no margin to interpretation, hence some results “discrepancies”.)

Let’s just comment my testing (I took it several times, always scoring the same into 2 to 4 % margin, this was the first attempt)

Paranoid || 10%
Schizoid ||||||||||||||||||||||| 92%
Schizotypal |||||||||||| 46%
Antisocial |||||||||| 34%
Borderline |||| 18%
Histrionic || 10%
Narcissistic |||| 14%
Avoidant |||||| 22%
Dependent || 10%
Obsessive-Compulsive |||||| 26%

Note: You can refer to the personality disorders section for symptoms likeliness.

Paranoid (10%) = More of a fluke than anything, but there is sufficient similarities in some “symptoms” for a computer to interpret “reluctance to confide to others…” as paranoid.

Schizoid (92%) = Spot on tin box!

Schizotypical (46%) = Half the symptoms are “technically” the same than SPD (for a computer), like Odd thinking, eccentric behavior, lack of close friends, excessive social anxiety. Without context (most of the odd / eccentric behavior of the schizotypical are related to “magic thinking”) the computer can’t tell the difference. PLUS I do not deny having unusual perceptual experiences (when really cruising on auto mode), and I do have peculiar “thinking” about the universe (though all really scientific and non magical) and the place of human kind in it (close to zero).

Antisocial (34%) = Guilty your honor. It’s not so much that I HATE society; it’s that I DON’T CARE. And so some time I “fail to conform to social norms”. I am not aggressive, nor will destroy public property (too much attention on myself, this will draw). But I will definitively “lack remorse” if I ever slap the guy trashing papers (I am not subscribed to any) at my door or hanging commercials at my handle.

Borderline (18%) = I think the computer takes me being aggressive in certain situations (like specific social norms I really cannot stand), and not really liking working with authoritative peoples, a bit too literally. When I get angry (pretty rare) it might be “inappropriate” in the view of social norms (when you want to be authoritative with me, your grade and age does not matter, you should pretty darn make sure you know what you are talking about, that’s all…). And I never become physical (it’s too interesting wearing down a “superior” on his own field). And of course, there is the “chronic feelings of emptiness” part I can relate to (without the chronic part).

Histrionic (10%) = A fluke (probably the same answer that gave 10% into dependent). I must not have been as radical as attended on a specific question. Yet again I don’t like to be radical, all is in constantly shifting grey shadows, “black or White” is a concept for the mass (see religions…)

Narcissistic (14%) = Do I think I am “special”, of course I do! (”special”, not “better”) Do I “lack empathy”, you bet! Spot on for the 14% my binary acquaintance.

Avoidant (22%) = Like for schizotypical, lots of the symptoms of SPD pertain to avoidant which explains the 22%. But I do not avoid people and social activities because I feel inadequate or could somehow get embarrassed. I could not care less about being “liked” or “embarrassed” (If anything, it will make me learn something, which is always a good thing).

Dependent (10%) = Fluke, see histrionic above.

Obsessive-Compulsive (26%) = Yeah, I got to admit I like some things in a certain way (usually mine, ha! ha!). I can be picky on details for some things, but not others (ex: very picky for the disposition of this site, went in length to change core components instead of picking a premade theme, but could not care less about what is in my plate for lunch, or the color of the folder for my report or the way my clothes are folded). And yes, I tend not to delegate tasks (never better served than by yourself, at least when you are wrong you can fix it and learn something, plus less dealing with others…) And of course I am devoted to work, that is because I am luckily enough for it not to be “work” per say. I am around things I like all day (computers), of course I could preferably do the same from home…

So, like I said, this particular test turned out to be pretty accurate for me. I still recommend caution while using those kind of online resources, they should not define you. After thinking it thru, I did decide to link to that site, you’ll find it in the “reference” links box under SimilarMinds.
