If you have read the article about the causes of SPD, you might remember I promised to dig a little more in details about my case. If you did not read it, I suggest you do it now: http://schizoid-personality.110mb.com/inner-thoughts/we-know-the-effects-but-what-are-the-causes/
On the genetics front:
My dad was definitively an introvert. I clearly remember him enjoying working in is wood shop, all alone (he re-made both apartments we lived in, integrating furniture, closets, putting separations and such). When he was not in his shop, he was reading, and after the death of his parents, he was in their home (40km outside the city) all week-ends, gardening and doing handy work by himself.
I remember him murmuring to himself, stopping when he sensed another presence in the same room. He also had some body language (eyebrow rising, slight shrouding…) completely off topic with what was happening around him (especially around the dinner table), and I know now those were responses to his own train of thoughts since I happen to do the same from time to time
So introvert he was, for sure, but I miss more details to be able to know if he was “just” introvert or had fully developed a “disorder”. For example, he had always some socialisation with his coworkers (though usually to have some drinks after work). I’ve never seen him trying to dodge a family reunion (like I always do…) in fact we were at my grandparents once a week, rotating between paternal and maternal side for a long time. He was at ease with big reunions like weddings, birthdays, etc… Chatting and joking.
On my mom side I cannot see anything genetically tied to introversion or such. (and it seems I dodged the respiratory issues).
So yes if genetics are a defining factor (still not proven yet), then I have some assets in there.

This week-end, well there was the nightmare of all the visits, but that’s not the point… My daughter was reading a comic to me. In one picture there is a kid entering his school at morning. You can see kids playing ball in the background, some other playing marble on the left side, and, a little girl seated against a wall and reading a book. My daughter stops and says “whoa, she’s lucky; she can read in her school…” I am like “well of course you can read in school“. My daughter looks at me and tell me “No, it’s forbidden to read outside the classroom in my school“…
I am like, no way, I misheard that, so I make her repeat, and explain what she means. Turns out the kids are not allowed books outside the classroom (even their own personal ones!!!) That’s not all; while discussing what they were doing outside, it was clear they are very pushed towards physical and group activities (ok she needs to get social, but if she does not want to, I’d like her to have a choice…) And when it’s to cold outside?… Brace yourself… They… watch TV!!?!!!
So in her school I can easily have her a lunch without pork under religious pretexts (parents, move your ass and do it yourself, or put the little worshipers in a private school!), but I cannot have my daughter read a book or be intellectual as she sees fit. Nice “public” education system indeed…

(Names have been changed to protect the stupidity of people)
Context: We have installed an “Adobe Connect” server to be able to produce remote trainings and virtual meeting rooms across the school board. Departments and people that will be using it have been fully trained on its usage.
A true work story:
January 31st Norbert emailed the IT DIRECTOR in order to have an account for him and his colleague to access to the server, CC his own ALTERNATIVE PROGRAMS DIRECTOR (in charge of teachers training).
My boss answered the same day, CC the helpdesk that is the entity where all requests should be made, CC our own IT trainer (the only one to actually use the server), and CC me (well I guess because when something needs to be done, it’s usually me…)
February 1st I answered to Norbert, CC his boss so that they know for next time, and CC the helpdesk to refresh their memory:
“Hello,
Access to the Adobe Connect server is managed by security groups, in the case people need specific access, here is how to proceed:
- Make a request to the helpdesk (link to the email address) providing the names of the users and their will to use the Adobe Connect server.
- Put those users in the correct group called “ConnectAuthors”.
- Tell the users to connect to the server (link to the server) and click the “request password” button. They will have to enter their email address in the corresponding box, then they will receive their username and password in their mailbox. They can now go back on the server and connect using the newly received information.
Norbert and Mary have been added in the proper group already.“ Read the rest of this entry »

Well the North America adventure was great but we decided it was time to go back. We’ve been talking about it since last summer. And we finally decided that for our daughter it is best to do it during summer break, for evident schooling reasons. So next summer we’ll be back in France. We already put the house for sale with an occupancy date of June, 30th.
I got nothing against going back per say. What I feel very uncomfortable with are the administrative tasks ahead, and the awful lot of social thing to take care of… Selling the furniture (Craigslist is my best friend, minimum interaction with people), the car, the house… Closing accounts, dealing with pension and education plans… And then of course the finding of a new home, new job, and… Be closer to family members… I have already been pretty clear that there will not be any “family weekends” on a permanent 7 days rotation schedule! Otherwise I’ll move to Australia next time, and quick! Read the rest of this entry »
