How « normal » our society is?

Society No Comments »

To day is another day in our “normal” society… I just went and picked up a parcel at the post office. Customs charged me $1.74 of taxes on a free product (clearly, the concept of percentage is beyond those guys).

But that’s not all… In order to decide that I had to pay $1.74, they charged me an extra $5.00 of “custom handling fees”… Just don’t handle it, send it straight to my home…

There is bigger problem in our world, but I got to admit, paying handling fee so you can be taxed on a bunch of papers (that was my trainer renewal from Microsoft, just a certificate, a plastic card and some forms, again I did not bought it, this is free stuff) is bad enough. But paying more for the fee than the actual tax itself, is just plain stupid.

Well, at least they did not taxed me on the handling fees ;-)

About Schizoids:

“Many, if not all, are highly intelligent.” - Denis Kucharski (http://www.angelfire.com/nt/ebay3/FAQ_of_Schizoid_Personality_Type.htm)

“He is brilliant, intelligent, creative, and hardworking.” Allison J. Himelick (http://www.pipeline.com/~dada3zen/schizoid_a_personality_not_a_disorder.htm)

“In the workplace, the schizoid is intelligent, gets things done, and they are unaffected by emotional events in the workplace; nothing bothers them much.” - (http://workplace.townhall.com/g/ec7ecae9-a5f7-47eb-904f-c3931918a6c5)

“Creative and intelligent” - Alexander Lowen (Eastern body, Western Mind - http://books.google.com/books?id=LngQ_5tdzPwC&pg=PA81&lpg=PA81&dq=schizoid+intelligent&source=web&ots=yvzqm21oqu&sig=DbDG-ojpPyR0JYiRjkaau0tqsnU)

“intelligent, articulate, efficient…” - Rollo May (Love & Will - http://books.google.com/books?id=JzMjnCFTzVEC&pg=PA68&lpg=PA68&dq=schizoid+intelligent&source=web&ots=_II8cfEpk3&sig=44seI5ac1mswES3S1njy-29kptc#PPP1,M1)

I don’t think Schizoid personality is a valid disorder, some of the smartest people in history were schizoid because they occupied a remote end of the intelligence bell curve. - Tim Flynn (http://www.similarminds.com/)

“Schizoids are generally of above average intelligence…” - Shawn (http://www.geocities.com/schizoidyg/schizoid2welcome.html)

Now since schizoids represent only between 1 to 7.5%* of the population, doesn’t this suggests that our society is primarily composed of cretins?

*(Statistics on the number of schizoids are notorious for their imperfection since one of the trait is to not concider self “sick”, so not really consulting… 1% is the official percentage of diagnosis, 7.5% is an estimated figure often referred to)

How schizoid?

schizoiddb.jpgI’ve read a post on PsyForums where a teenager was wondering if he had SPD. A nice, definitively on the good side of the fence young man (not saying that because he is obviously a bit introvert). Made me wonder how many people think they could have a SPD…

So here is how schizoid I am (again it’s just me) so you can compare:

I have got to admit

Important disclaimers before going forward:

  1. I personally do not believe in classifying people into tables. My own belief is that INDIVUDUALS are UNIQUE (it just so happen that in our society there are not much individuals).
  2. I STRONGLY advise that you look into yourself and KNOW yourself very well before taking any online personality test. They are not meant to inform you of who you are. You should know who you are by yourself. A test (if it is good and honestly answered) will just put a name or label on what you already knew.

So, as I prepared that site I made quiet extensive research and crossed path with an awful lot of online therapy and self help sites, or other “let us give you your personality profile for (insert fee here)”… Usually that crap is 100% commercial, trying to have some kind of “medical” feel to it but full of ads and always ending having something to sell you (book, meds, counseling, your profil…) DO NOT FALL FOR IT! Those sharks are surfing the trendy wave of anxiety. Of course most people feel “inadequate” or “stressed” or “anxious”, they live in a society that goes pretty much against any natural instincts we may have as mammals, so yeah people don’t feel so “well”…

While researching I tumbled on a site pretty much dedicated only to online personality testing. Just one ad on top, no selling, nor pushing you toward anything of the like. I first thought I should take the “personality disorder” test because it will make for great bashing in the blog…

Well I got to admit I cannot bash it. It worked for me, pretty accurate too. Remember: you have to answer HONESTLY (not the way you would like to appear, it is just you behind the keyboard, no lies) and keep in mind it is a COMPUTERIZED assessment (which mean it’s very close to what 95% of the therapists are doing when check marking your answers on their pre-printed forms, no no I am kidding… Sort of… Well it is computerized so no margin to interpretation, hence some results “discrepancies”.)

Let’s just comment my testing (I took it several times, always scoring the same into 2 to 4 % margin, this was the first attempt)

Why the site? Why now?

question.pngIt is against every single one of the fibbers in my being to express myself other than thru art or fiction. And as I wrote those very lines, my mind is pushing me to stop. Getting me reasons to actually quit, do something more pleasant, eat, get a candy, watch an episode of something, finish my book, anything but writing this… Just go back into my shell.

So why am I doing it? Because I want to prove myself I can? That will be peachy isn’t it? Little introvert trying to prove himself he is capable of expression into the world, reach at long last the realms of the society he’s been trying to be a part of for so many years, can he make it? Will he succeed in his wonderful lovely race for the truth??… (it’s so wet and beautiful, I am actually shivering, sadly I have to break the show as it is time for the advertisements)…

Back to reality: Truth is I know I can do it, I already do know myself extremely well. (Something being an introvert gives you is plenty of opportunities to reflect upon yourself.) So I have nothing to prove to myself, and even less to society. In fact, this site is simply: My ultimate tool!

Don’t you see? Well It’s obvious: “Look, I am so sensible, naked in front of all those strangers, all diminished, vulnerable…” And yet I so don’t care! (can’t touch me) Yes, this is gonna be my ultimate defence mechanism!

If you haven’t done so already, I encourage you to read the Disclaimer section. Never forget that I am lacking the most basic emotions most of you are feeling every day. So my endeavour with that site might bring me “too far” (for your point of view) and hurt some people. And I can’t really apologize for that either, since I honestly don’t care and don’t see the point of lying about it.
