(Names have been changed to protect the stupidity of people)
Context: We have installed an “Adobe Connect” server to be able to produce remote trainings and virtual meeting rooms across the school board. Departments and people that will be using it have been fully trained on its usage.
A true work story:
January 31st Norbert emailed the IT DIRECTOR in order to have an account for him and his colleague to access to the server, CC his own ALTERNATIVE PROGRAMS DIRECTOR (in charge of teachers training).
My boss answered the same day, CC the helpdesk that is the entity where all requests should be made, CC our own IT trainer (the only one to actually use the server), and CC me (well I guess because when something needs to be done, it’s usually me…)
February 1st I answered to Norbert, CC his boss so that they know for next time, and CC the helpdesk to refresh their memory:
“Hello,
Access to the Adobe Connect server is managed by security groups, in the case people need specific access, here is how to proceed:
- Make a request to the helpdesk (link to the email address) providing the names of the users and their will to use the Adobe Connect server.
- Put those users in the correct group called “ConnectAuthors”.
- Tell the users to connect to the server (link to the server) and click the “request password” button. They will have to enter their email address in the corresponding box, then they will receive their username and password in their mailbox. They can now go back on the server and connect using the newly received information.
Norbert and Mary have been added in the proper group already.“
February 5th the ALTERNATIVE PROGRAMS DIRECTOR emailed our IT trainer Evelyne (which really has nothing to do with all that…) and CC me:
“Evelyne, is it done?“
Well dear miss Director I think the last sentence of my email 4 days ago was “Norbert and Mary have been added in the proper group already.“ so I guess if you had read it you’ll know it is done. PLUS COULD YOU PLEASE GO THRU THE HELPDESK (as stated in point 1 of my email), we don’t pay them to eat cashews all day… And our trainer has really no access to security groups, since well, she is a trainer not a security officer…
February 5th Norbert emailed me, CC our IT trainer (again, what is it with her, ok she’s cute but come on, choose your interlocutor wisely, like, I don’t know THE HELPDESK maybe?)
“Hello Evelyne or Jack,
How do I proceed from this point? What is my username and password?“
Well, jeez Norbert, I don’t know maybe point 3 of my email could answer your question if you had read it? Or is it just that you can’t understand it?
Now I counted, my email was 11 lines long (including greetings) composed of 3 bullet points and one conclusion line. If a director of pedagogy and a teaching counselor can’t understand that… I am VERY AFRAID for the education of our younglings…
I first deleted both their emails since I rarely repeat myself twice, but then I decided to give them a chance, so I answered with a copy/paste of my previous email with point 1 and 3 as well as the conclusion sentence bolded, underlined and in red. Think they’ll got it or should I rephrase it like I was writing to a 2 years old?
